Embraer Celebrates Opening

Today Embraer. the Brazilian jet maker, held a ribbon cutting ceremony, celebrating the opening of their jet assembly campus at Melbourne International Airport. This is the first U.S. manufacturing plant for the Brazilian based aircraft manufacturer. Later this year a customer care center will open at the location. The location will assemble two of it's business jets in Melbourne, the Phenom 100 and the Phenom 300. Full production of about eight aircraft a month should occur next year.

Embraer President and Chief Executive Officer was asked about expanding into commercial aircraft at this location. "As you can see, we have access to alot of land where we can build. Today would be totally premature to make any plans. I can tell you  we're not here for the short-term, we're here for the long term, so it is possible" he said.

Two other large aviation companies, AAR Corp. and MidAir USA are expected to break ground soon on their own operations.
