    For more than seven years the KLD Youth Foundation has been devoted to equipping, enhancing and empowering the lives of local teenagers.

    Through the work of it's in-house counseling center, Christian-based private school and community youth center, the organization has reached thousands of at-risk students, high-achievers and everyone in between.

    Since it's inception, the KLD learning center, known as The Pillar Institute, was housed within what was once a 60,000-square-foot Publix in a Merritt Island shopping plaza.

    But, by this time next year, the nonprofit organization will have some new digs.

    The new 11,000-square-foot facility on North Tropical Trail on Merritt Island will feature 11 classrooms, offices, a sound stage, eating area and a large multi-purpose room, designed for community out-reach events and after-school programs.

    "In the past, we've had to make people believe in our vision without them actually seeing it," said Janet Shaffer, CEO of KLD Foundation. "This new facility will allow us to truly show them our dream."

    About 70 students in grades K-12 are currently enrolled at The Pillar Institute, and Ms. Shaffer estimates that at least 30 more will enroll by the time the facility opens.

    "We're in the process of waiting for our permits to be approved," Ms. Shaffer said. "We're hoping to move in as soon as possible - hopefully before the end of the year."

    As a way to assist the organization with the cost of the new facility, Paradise Properties of Satellite Beach and Paradise in Brevard will host a fundraiser November 7th called "An Evening in Paradise".

    The event will feature musical entertainment, a wine-tasting by Moonstruck in Downtown Melbourne, casual dining catered by various local restaurants, an informal fashion show and a live auction featuring more than a dozen items up for bid.

    Auction items include a $3000 golf package, a $5000 piece of art from Lopressionism Gallery in downtown Melbourne, a $1300 photography package, a $1000 weekend package at Port d'Hiver Bed & Breakfast in Melbourne Beach, various spa packages, as well as cosmetic services, courtesy of Dr. Roxanne Guy in Melbourne.

    "We've gotten a great response from the community," said Pamela Bennett, managing editor of Paradise in Brevard, the Real Estate group quarterly magazine. "It's really going to be a wonderful event."

    David Omler, owner of Paradise Properties, and his team, organized the event shortly after hearing all that the KLD Foundation was about.

    "It's an amazing organization that has always stuck with it's vision." Mr. Omler said. "It touches the lives of the children here in Brevard who have fallen off the path and need some help getting back on track. We hope this event will help KLD to continue its dream of helping these students achieve their goals."
